What are the Drumming Circles all about?
Join us in the Spirit Circle Drumming Circles - wonder-full times of exhilarating, energizing drumming - amazing, magical times of experimentation, spontaneous creativity, and shameless drumming!
What do we do in the Drumming Circles?
These drumming circles are informal, spontaneous circles where we allow the drums to speak their voices however they need to. Our focus is not on songs or teaching rythyms - this is a spontaneous, joy-full experience of seeing where the sound of the drumming will lead us.
No experience? No problem! You don't have to know how to drum to be a part of this circle. We embrace the natural flow of freeform drumming, so there's no right or wrong way to drum and no pressure to perform. Just come along, have fun, and enjoy the energy of drumming with wild abandon!
If you haven't been to one of our drumming circles yet, please come. They're a lot of fun, and you never know what you're going to experience.
Where are the drumming circles held?
I have facilitated drumming circles in several locations in North America, and would be pleased to talk with you about travelling to your location, should you feel the need for a drumming circle there.
Most of our drumming circles are held in and around Errington, Qualicum, Parksville, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and other locations on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. We've had people come from Courtenay, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanaimo, Duncan, Sooke, Victoria and other surrounding areas come to take part in our drumming circles. Visitors to the area are welcome to join us any time as well.
In cooler weather we meet in halls, wellness centers, bookstores, gift shops, and other community buildings. In nicer weather we meet outdoors at the beach, in the woods, and other natural spaces, depending on the location. We have been invited to drum in hospice and elder care lodges, as well as recovery and other healing groups.
Who may attend?
Our drumming circles are open to those with a desire to unleash their inspiration with wild abandon in the form of spontaneous drumming!
All women and men are welcome from young adults to elders in the spirit of joyful, nurturing experiences through drumming. We may also welcome kids younger than teens who have a definite appreciation for the sacredness of the circle - contact us to inquire.
What should you bring?
Bring your drum, your eager spirit, and your openness to a new, unscripted experience.
Many other instruments have made their way into our drumming circles as well: flutes, moroccas, tambourine and a slidewhistle! Feel free to bring along your other instruments if you wish.
If you don't have a drum, we may have a few extras. Please call us ahead of time and we'll see if there's one here for you to use during the circle. If you have more than one drum, please let us know if you'll be bringing them so we can coordinate sharing them with others when needed.
How much does it cost?
We'll advise you of costs in our email reminders and on the calendar of upcoming circles.
If you're able to contribute the amount suggested it's always welcome. However, if you aren't able to contribute monetarily, please contact us - we don't want money to stop you from being able to benefit from our drumming circles. Perhaps you could volunteer to help in some way, or contribute another way.
